Baked Potatoes Anyone?

Boston wanted to help make lunch.

I guess we have baked potatoes a little too often.

Pouring

Another water related post. What kid doesn't love playing in the sink. This session ended very quickly when he poured a full cup of water on the floor. Yikes! What a mess.

In the Rain

Boston loves the shower. He calls it "the rain." He could spend hours splashing around.

Yaki Tacos

No, not Yucky tacos. They are (teri)Yaki Tacos. One of my favorite warm weather dinner. One night when we are having grilled chicken I just marinate twice as many chicken pieces and then use the leftovers for the tacos the next evening.

4 flour tortillas
2 teriyaki chicken breast cooked and shredded
4 slices Monterey Jack Cheese (or another mild cheese)
teriyaki sauce
1 pkg broccoli slaw
1 can of pineapple tidbits (or fresh pineapple YUM!)

I take a flour tortilla and warm it in a frying pan with a little butter. Top the tortilla with some shredded chicken and a slice of Monterey Jack Cheeses. Cook until the cheese is melted and the chicken is warm. Check the bottom of the tortilla to make sure it is not browning too much. Then you can add broccoli slaw, pineapple pieces or a little more sauce. Roll it up and eat it like a taco.

So easy! So delicious! and all your food groups rolled into one tortilla!

Little Lambs

Today we went to Enselmo's (a grounds worker here) farm in Granger and saw two lambs. Boston got to bottle feed them and then they kept chasing him for more food. They also had a bounce house set up but for a boy who loves to jump on his bed he did not do much jumping. There were so many new things to see.

At the Park

The minute Boston wakes up he says "It is time to play outside." He would love to be outside the whole day long. He is really enjoying the little park by our house. The slide is so high though that I have to follow him up until he is seated at the top and then tell him to wait while I run around to the bottom to catch him. And even before his feet touch the ground "again! again!" he says.

An Early Birthday!

We celebrated my mom's b-day a day early before heading home. Once again Boston was a big help opening the presents and blowing out the candles. He loves birthdays!

What a face!

More SLC Happening

We were glad for nice weather on Friday so Boston could go outside play ball and ride his trike. (The hat is his own independent decision)

He loved to see the popcorn trees and would sing the song every time he saw one. Trips in the car often sounded like, "There's a popcorn tree! I looked out the window ... There's a popcorn tree! I looked out the window and what did I see.. There's a popcorn tree." Sightings of cranes and basketball hoops were also a big deal.

We visited Great Grandma Coleman and fed some ducks in the dark.

The first thing Boston said when we pulled up to my mom's house was "Look at all of Grandma's pretty yellow flowers."

"Grandpa 'slip"

Grandpa 'slip is what Boston calls his Great Grandpa Heslop. Grandpa was not feeling well this day so Boston gave him a big hug.

We hope Grandpa is feeling better!

Vanessa's B-Day!

Spencer dropped Boston and I off in SLC for a week so we could be there for my sister and mom's birthday. First was Vanessa's day. My dad barbequed in a downpour, we opened presents, and had some cake. Boston enjoyed helping Vanessa and say "what's it what's it what's it?". His favorite part though was singing and blowing out the candles with Nessa.

The Birds Have Found Us

Finally...

I have had seed in the bird feeder for a month now and no luck. I had Spencer move the feeders a couple feet away from the house and ... viola ... now we can watch the birds out our front window. And there are so many colorful birds, red, yellow, blue etc. One of the nice things about WY is all the birds. Boston loves to count them and ask "What are the birdies doing?" again and again.

Happy Easter!

Boston's favorite find from the Easter Bunny was his football and a little farm.
Thank you Easter Bunny!
After 100 "jellies" (jelly beans) ... we're off to church!

Egg Hunts

We had two Egg Hunts to go to today. The first was in a little town called Granger. We got there a few minutes late so the kids had already started. Boston got on to the field and was so interested in the other kids he just wanted to follow them instead of gathering eggs. We practically had to beg him to pick the eggs up. Then he started picking them up but if they did not rattle when he shook them (because they were boiled eggs) he would throw them back on the grass. There were supposed to be some other people from work there but they did not show so we did not know anyone there but everyone was so friendly to us. They had lots of extra candy leftover so they kept dumping it in Boston's basket or putting it out for him to find. He liked playing at the little park there more than anything else.

Then we came home to quickly dump the treats out of the basket and then down to the little park by our house where all the kids from work gathered. The Easter Bunny arrived on the fire truck and led the kids to the front lawn where there were a bunch of eggs all over the grass. Boston took off when they said go but still did not want to put the eggs in the basket he wanted to see the bunny or the firetruck of roll around on the ground.

I don't understand how a kid that was terrified of Santa could love the Easter Bunny this much. When we were walking to the egg hunt the bunny put out his hand to give him 5 and Boston grabbed his hand and said "Come on Bunny" and walked the whole way there holding his hand. Then all he wanted to do was be by that bunny.

Again they had tons of candy left over so they gave us two extra baskets to take home. I am glad I did not buy any candy for tomorrow. Instead we have some little toys for the Easter Bunny to hide.

Some Visitors

Vanessa and my mom came up for a night while Vanessa was on Spring Break. We really appreciate them using some of their vacation time to come and visit us.
Friday evening we had just sat down at the dinner table when Boston looked at Vanessa and said, "Are you my conscience?" We all started laughing, he looked at us like what's the big deal and said,"Dori says that." It is a line from his favorite movie Nemo.
We got ice cream cones, played games, read stories and had a great time. Boston also showed them how to play Easter eggs. (In an effort to prepare him for a couple of Egg Hunts on Saturday I have been hiding eggs and showing him how to put them in the basket when he finds them.) He had them sit in the living room while he hid the eggs (in a pile in the middle of the play room floor). "Ready!" he shouted and took the basket to them to fill with the eggs. He was so excited for them to find the eggs he showed them where they were. Then when they put them in the basket "Good job guys" he told them.

Easter Eggs

While Vanessa and my mom were here we made Easter eggs. My mom found q-tip like things that had dye in them so Boston could draw on the eggs. He really enjoyed it and was so proud of his eggs.

A Day at the Beach

... a prehistoric beach. We found a nice area of sand and made a giant sandcastle. Unfortunatly Boston was more intereseted in tearing down what we built than building.

A Spring Classic

If only there were blossoms on the tree. I think we have a month or more until this tundra thaws.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Well it finally snowed enough to go snowmobiling. Spencer took Boston around the field a couple times and then they talked me into going. Spencer and I took turns driving around while the other rode in the sled with Boston. He kept laughing and screaming. He was having so much fun.

Field Fishing

Spencer kicked off the spring fishing season by taking Boston fishing on the back lawn. When the sun comes up so do the ground squirrels. Spencer and Boston chase the squirrels down their holes and then place a slip knot loop over the hole and leave a cracker nearby. They follow the string back a few yards and wait. A few moments later the squirrel pops up to have a look around unaware he is in the middle of a snare. A little jerk of the line and you are reeling in a squirrel. It is similar to reeling in a fish. The squirrel is not hurt and is easily released by loosening the slipknot and letting the squirrel run away.

Hamburgers

We took these April Fools Hamburgers around to some neighbor's yesterday. They were super easy and fun to make. Sandwich one grasshopper cookie between two vanilla wafers with some light orange frosting. Add a little green coconut and sesame seeds and there you have it. Boston loved to show people the "hambooger cookies."

Inside Outside Upside Down

One of the best things about Boston is that he is so happy. He finds happiness and joy all around him. Even a box is cause for enjoyment!

Happy April Fools Day!

Hope your day is filled with laughs!
